Dr. Meyers, Hello! I hope your Thanksgiving was rejuvenating and enjoyable with family and friends. This is Angelia (Angel) Hirsch from the summer practicum course through Liberty University. I am not certain what happened over the week of Thanksgiving, but our house (which is a 125 year-old historical home, really a niche market, not many want to deal with the special things that come along with the age and up keep) suddenly went into high demand and we had numerous offers come in on Wednesday!
Shirley Jackson wrote the famous short story The Lottery in 1948, a time where people often hosted these with cash or numerous prizes. The way the story is twisted, told, foreshadowed and characterized is impressive because it keeps the reader guessing, asking the questions, “Who will win?” and “What’s the prize?” That truly is the beauty in this story and how it keeps the reader on a hook like a fish, until that final pull to being on land, and in the bucket. By using and impressive display of symbolism Jackson uses names, objects, and the setting to conceal the true meaning and intention of the
And Colossians 3:17 reinforces that: " And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." All of these things can cause us to hold on to upset feelings, but it's important to recognize that we used our time as wisely as we knew how. There is sometimes a lot of pressure to get certain things done, and other things get put on the back burner. It is only with hindsight that we start to regret not doing them, and that's when forgiveness has to come in. Instead of holding on to anger or pain around something you didn't get done, forgive yourself and move on by scheduling it into your life if it is something that can still be done.

The Hebrew term for gratitude is hakarat hatov, which means, literally, "recognizing the good." Practicing gratitude means recognizing the good that is already yours.
