Provision three is to protect the health, safety, and rights of the patient. I have seen this provision greatly applied to my nursing experience in clinical to provide; privacy, confidentiality, protection of patients in research, standards and review mechanisms, acting on questionable practice and addressing impaired practice.
Privacy and confidentiality go close together. Remove identifiers before leaving the clinical floor, don't discuss loudly to others about patient care, respect the patient by only informing those needed about the patient and be considerate to boundaries/privacy when providing care. This is a patient right, and does not need to be apart of any research they do not want tot be apart of. Patient's if are interested need to be well informed and made sure that they have a solid understanding about the research.
Standards and Review mechanisms, medicine and technology, new evidence based studies and much more is always revolving around the health care field as we are reaching new heights. As a nurse we are to understand that we need to keep up with these changes and be willing to learn and take on new practices implemented in the hospital to improve patient quality care. In my future practice I need to ensure that I am accountable for keeping up with new practices and skill development.
Acting on questionable practice, being an advocate nurses need to be fully knowledge on the Code of Ethics, policies and procedures and the provisions to know when it is needed to intervene in questionable practice for the patients safety. The Nurse should discuss the care with the other care provider as well as inform the authorities if needed. On the floor if I ever have a question in regards to the care I am instructed to give by my floor nurse that I question I either ask for clarification by the floor nurse as well as discuss my concern with my
