Cause As stated before depression is on a complex spectrum of mood disorders. There is no single definition so describe depression. There is no one form of it either, the fluidity of this mood disorder covers a wide area of disorders. Just like depression is a multidimensional disorder it also multidimensional when it comes to causation. However it is understood to be caused by a combination of genetic, biologic, environmental and psychological factors (Health, 2011). Genes are one of the basic models that make us who we are. Treatment For treatment methods, the patient 's input along with the doctor 's or therapist professional diagnostic opinion, are taken into consideration for the course of treatment. There are two common ways of treatment. Therapy, which combats the emotional aspects of any issues and the medicine, which combats the biologically aspects of any issues using antidepressants. Therapy is an approach that gives long term relief. Most therapy session use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. In this form of therapy the patient is taught not only to recognize but also change the way they think. Cognitive therapy enables patients to identify the "errors" in the way that they process and think about things. This first step in therapy is normally the most difficult. Not many people can self identify what is wrong with their thought processes, yet alone change them. However once that is done the next step is to determine the underlying issues that are causes the depressive tendencies to be present (Durand & Barlow, Mood Disorders and Suicide, 2016). The idea with this is that because the individual has already identified the errors in the way they processes information and have changed that, with the new "look on life" mentality these issues that cause the depressive episodes won 't seem as bad.
