We choose a lot of things in our life. We choose the place to live in, the unipversity to study at, and people to communicate to. But the only thing we actually cannot choose is our parents. Children will never change the fact their parents are drunkards, addicts, criminals, or mentally and physically disabled people. Though, slavery was cancelled a long time ago, still many kids nowadays continue being slaves: the slaves of terrible coincidence of circumstances. I can call them so because they have no choice, no opportunity to rebel or change their situation. They are abused both physically and psychologically. They cannot escape from this hell. My best friend’s father is a drunkard, and I cannot hold back tears when I think of all her bruises and suffers. In Ukraine I had an experience of being a volunteer in the orphanage. I wanted to help these children because I can imagine the pain they’ve got every day. What struck me the most when I came to the orphanage was the hopelessness in the eyes of these children! They have to be very mature in life. They did not receive any parental love, care, or support. I started visiting them in order to give them at least some of my love and care they had not got the chance to receive before. cannot solve such a big problem in one day. But I truly believe if there are other people like me who really desire and ready to work hard in order to change this situation by creating a special organization that will deal with such problems giving lectures at schools and universities and provoke people’s attention in the society; all together we can make a change. I am certain that this workshop can give me some precious experience. I have a lot of ideas, but I need some more knowledge to get how I can use them in real life. I hope that this week will give me some valuable experience of working with bright leaders, who want to share their unique ideas. I need some experience of organizing people. “Civic education workshop” will give me something more than just a week in Washington D.C. I am sure that it will give me strengths, support and inspiration putting all my plans and ideas in the nearest future.
