Literature has always played an important role in my life. When I was younger, I would read anything that I could get my hands on; as I have grown older, my passion has also grown. It is my love for reading that has inspired my desire to study Comparative Literature at university. I want to pursue my study of English Literature because I have a real passion for the subject and I want to further expand my knowledge. More specifically, I want to follow the route of Comparative Literature because it includes aspects of literature that I have never studied before, offering a wider view of literature throughout the world. This would give me an opportunity to expand my worldview by studying writers that I have not yet encountered, or by evaluating viewpoints that I have not yet considered. I believe I am right for this course as I have a passion for the subject and the desire to learn more. At all of the universities that I have visited, I have met students and teachers who share my interest for this subject, and I have been excited and inspired by the conversations we have had. I know that my undergraduate studies will present many challenges, but I am confident I will face them with confidence and determination. I find the way he writes fascinating, especially in “War and Peace”. The book spans such a long time, and covers such a varied range of events, yet it is all linked together in a way that makes it an incredibly interesting read- one that is still relevant and important today. I would love to be able to study the history behind “War and Peace”, and look at what influenced it, and how it influenced others, especially as it is such a famous novel, with many adaptations.
