Ever since I can remember, I have always had a deep desire to learn. Growing up in Mexico, we didn’t have a lot of money, but I always found a way to get my hands on something to read. I remember fondly the excitement of opening the brand new text books that were provided by the public school I attended in my small town. I could hardly wait to get home and read every single book from cover to cover. So, what is it that drives someone to seek knowledge? Why do some people seem to crave the thrill of finding out new information while others seem to not have any interest at all? Those are questions I often ask myself and I believe a Master’s in Educational Psychology can help me dispel the mysteries of the learning process.

Because I have a special passion for learning, I would love to work with others by sharing this passion. I am particularly interested in developing educational material for other non-traditional and minority students. It is my hope to be able to learn how to encourage, motivate, and engage them in order to bring them to a successful completion of their educational journey. In addition, online and distance learning is a growing trend, as a result, I am highly interested in learning more about this subject, and hopefully create educational materials that fulfill the needs of students who do not have the opportunity to attend a brick-and-mortar institution. Since I am 100% fluent in Spanish, I can develop material in both English and Spanish, and for this purpose I am also pursuing a double major in Spanish. Furthermore, the fact that I have experienced firsthand the challenges of adapting to a new country, with a different language and customs, helps me appreciate the importance of creating curriculums that are easy to understand and that will match the student’s culture and thought processes. As an example, I have realized that an abstract subject, such as math is very difficult to understand when reading the concept from a textbook. Especially so, when English is not the student’s primary language, in those cases, I believe it is more practical to show examples of how the equation is solved, rather than having them read the
