My love for archaeology is rooted in my love for history, art, and science. I was first introduced to these subjects through reading. When I was younger I read illustrated books about Ancient Greece and Rome. Later it was the old biology textbooks I found lying around the house. I fell in love with the idea of evolution. I was fascinated by the way our planet has changed over the millennia. The subtle differences between each species of human were beautiful. I imagined I could put together a flip book detailing our change from australopithecus to homo habilis and homo erectus. I was also captivated by the evolution of human society. I marvelled at the ruins of Tikal. I pictured in my head the rise and fall of great civilizations. I read about …show more content…
I wanted to learn more about culture and the evolution of human from hunter-gatherer to where we are today, so I took art history. It has taught me about the move from post and lintel to arch to ribbed vault. It also taught me how humans have expressed themselves over the centuries. Philosophy taught me to question everything and to always look for not just the how behind something, but the why. It has made me a more thorough person. Biology has prepared me to study the relationship between nature and man. I now know how humans have impacted our environment and how our environment has impacted us. In statistics I am learning about analyzing data and taking samples, which are important when working with a large amount of data or when I might need to make inferences from a small amount of information. In computer science I am learning about algorithms and computer programs so that I may better understand the ones I may need to use to help me in the future. I have taken marine biology as well, since I am interested in maritime archaeology. I now know how algae grows on the sides of sunken ships and begins to create a habitat for marine
