“What school can teach me how to be a successful anthropology while simultaneously challenging me to

improve?’ I asked myself as I researched the potential colleges available for the quest bridge applicants.

As I moved down the quest bridge provided list I found Colorado College. A quick google search later

and the answer to my question seemed near. By this point I was already intellectually intrigued by the

block plan. But still i was looking for something that would set Colorado’s Anthropology program apart

from the others. That’s when I saw the specific tailored approach to field work and ethnography. More

In my views learning how to utilize the

knowledge provide by four years of study is crucial to being able to succeed in the work field.

Another reason that I wish to attend Colorado College is the Block Plan. I have never heard of such an

unorthodox approach towards teaching. Quite honestly, in my opinion it’s ingenious. Focusing on one

sole class enables the student to do better and excel in their course. For an honors student, this option

is extremely appealing. I know how grueling and exhausting it is to juggle intensive, rigorous classes in

addition to sports, extracurricular, jobs and home responsibilities. By giving a student breathing space

they have the opportunity to do exponential better than if they had to divide their attention amongst

multiple classes. However, this means that the class will be more rigorous and require more time

investment outside of class than any other class I have ever experience. The beauty of the Block

Program is that the challenging aspect is still present because the classes are more interactive, more

focused and more rigorous but still allow breathing space for the student. For someone who likes
