Being exposed to the true side of a person if often difficult in society. The pressure to be like everyone else oppresses a multitude of people. Education is not restricted to the classroom. Education cna expose a person to his true emotional, mental, and spiritual strength. Sydney J. Harris, a famous American journalist, once wrote, “Most people are mirrors, reflecting the moods and emotion of the times; few are windows, bringing light to bear on the dark corners where troubles fester. The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.” Education can be utilized to help a person become more authentic, helping other people and himself conquer the troubles in life.

Mrs. Skotte always expressed that she believed I could accomplish my dreams. At that point in my life, I was determined to become a lawyer; now, I am considering the nursing field. She told me how smart I was. To this day, I am not sure is she knows how much of an impact she had on my life. I learned many life lessons while I was in my life. I remember reading The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey by Trenton Lee Stewart, a nearly four hundred page book. For a fourth grader this was an excellent accomplishment. Mrs. Skotte watched me while I was engaged in my Accelerate Reading Test. Once I completed the test, we looked at the results together. I had received one hundred percent. I saw the look of happiness, pride and approval on my teacher’s face. At this early age, I had not yet found my purpose in life. I had always been told I was intelligent, but I had not realized it until that moment. Mrs. Skotte was a window that exposed me to my true academic strength. She opened my eyes to the fact that I could be a
