Getting into University has been a dream in the making. One of the driving factors behind this dream has been for my family and my passion for art and design. I grew up showcasing my artistic talent on my grandma's living room walls to her dismay. Luckily for me no punishment seemed necessary. On the contrary the skill I possessed was seen as an opportunity for my future, I just needed to be guided in the right direction. I have always been pushed to pursue my talents however art is unproportionally overlooked in public education even though artist and designers have built this world. From the design of appliances to the layout of city blocks design is instrumental in bringing ideas to fruition. College offers a unique ground for experimentation, growth, and networking. Shadowing other like minded creatives is one of the best experiences to be attained for personal growth. Just as importantly I have realized how much of a science art really is. There is a method and formula to truly producing successful works. This shouldn't take until college for young kids to learn. It is a dream of mine to initiate a program built by a "collective of artist" in my home town. This collective would consist of local artist, teachers, and hobbyist who would mentor children and truly allow them to express and hone into their artistic craft. This artist free space would allow young creatives to meet, create, and swap ideas. A primary focus of this collective would be in assisting financially struggling children in order to expose them to new experiences and individuals who recognize their talents.
