Goals are set in the long term, targets that move and change depending on the circumstances that are handed to us. As they shift, however, goals leave a lasting impact on the people who have them. Without goals, people would not have a reason to live. People need goals to drive and guide them. My goals have directed me to my future and impacted me heavily along the way. Ever since I could remember, I always wanted to pursue a career in the field of science. I loved learning new things about the world and how different aspects of the natural and man made world interacted with each other. The world of science impacted me so much that some of my fondest memories include reading Popular Science and Popular Mechanics magazines during lunch and free mods during school. As I sat reading, I was in a constant state of awe. How did people come up with new innovations that could some day revolutionize the world? How were scientists going to apply these new inventions effortlessly and seamlessly into the world we live in today or, perhaps more importantly, the world we live in twenty years from now? I started to understand the importance of innovations such as surgical robots, myoelectric prosthesis given to combat veterans, and augmenting the human body to surpass the limits the Mother Nature set forth for us. I also learned, however, the limitations of the healthcare field because of a lack of technology. I decided to pursue biomedical engineering to change that. I wanted to make an impact on the world in order to achieve my goal; I needed to pursue engineering to be on the forefront of new technological innovation.
