My mom was a nurse in my country and she used to bring me to the hospital to spend time there. I have always been so fascinated and excited with what my mom had to say about her day at the hospital and I enjoyed the times she took me there. As I grew up and learned more about science and what being a doctor meant, I fell even more deeply in love with the profession. When I came to this country my dream to become a doctor was still blooming and exciting but when I started going to college and learning about what it takes to get into medical school, it started to frighten me. It worried me because I learned much later that it is not about having good grades, having passion and determination. You u also have to shadow a doctor, and have research experience. If it were not for my friends in my organic class that planned to attend medical school as well, I would have never deciphered that good grades are not the only thing that mattered. I didn’t know that there was something else that mattered otherwise I would have tried to figure what it was. Knowing and not looking is different then not knowing that there is something else you should be looking for. Getting an internship or shadowing a doctor typically requires connections.
