One Year Older and Wiser Too It’s remarkable to me how just a year ago, at this same time I was a senior getting ready to graduate from highschool, taking the last steps to complete the first chapter of my life that was childhood through high school. I remember at the time how fearful I was to leave home and embark onto the next chapter of my life. The beginning of this new chapter started here at Utah State during my freshman year, while it was by know means perfect or what I imagined it would be, through a multitude of stress, tears, and life changing moments, I know now I am ready for this new journey. After frustratingly realizing my mistake I embarrassingly made my way to the correct building and classroom. In highschool I had a distaste for english, the pointless writing prompts and books to read never interested me. I understood its importance in a well rounded education, but that by no means I enthusiastically went about it. That is why when I signed up for english at a college level I dreaded it. My expectations were that it would be more writing to prompts, but the writing would be harder and more tedious hours of my life would be spent writing. Before this class I always assumed my relationship with the english as a course would end after I took the required english courses for my major. I now understand that english as a skill is required to be successful at the next level, post college. To be a successful professional adult one must be able to effectively communicate with others in their field. This might look like writing emails that are clear and free from grammar mistakes. English at the next level could also take the shape of interpreting writing or communications in the correct manor. In order to become a well rounded adult writing and understanding the english language can not digress one must move forward and continue to learn. In order for myself to make it the field I researched this semester for my discourse community, I’m going to need to improve my grammar skills as of the moment they are not at a professional level.
