The Path to Success As a performer the most common question I am asked is why? Why did I choose acting? Why did I get involved with theater ? Why is performing such a thrill? Throughout the years my response has always remained the same, because it is my passion. Although cliche it was the truth and nothing but the truth. After being apart of the performance world for so long, theater became apart of me; infact for a while it was my whole identity. It was not until one day when my answer was challenged and those whys turned into a what that I truly realized how much theater impacted my life. She explained all the wonderful things the program had to offer, but all I could think about is if I could not get into the governor's school program, why would New York want me? Despite my first failed attempt, I accepted the offer and began to prepare for New York. I worked closely with my drama teacher and went over my resume at least a thousand times. The day of the audition arrived and instead of the overwhelming feeling of confidence comforting me once again, I felt more nervous than ever. I went into my audition reminding myself to just try my best and to set aside the past. I fully invested myself into my character and before I knew it the audition was over. Instead of receiving words that would relieve me of stress from the judges, I was told that I would receive a letter of acceptance or rejection and to have a nice day. After three days of waiting and already coming to the conclusion that I had been rejected, the letter arrived.As I struggled to tear the letter open, my first failed attempt played in my mind over and over again. What felt like a moment passed and a warming sensation took over my body, I was accepted. As I reflect on this memory I am thankful because it truly impacted my life. This experience helped me grow and look at my failures in a different light. It taught me to never give up and to continue down my path until I reach success. From that day forward I never look at setbacks as failures but rather motivation to keep going so in the end I will be
