“Where do I want to go to college?”
Until my junior year of high school, I never really asked myself that question. Scrolling through US News or Niche, I would pick and choose a different college from the rankings each time I thought of where I wanted to pursue my higher education. However, when I broke down which aspects of a college education were most important to me, I had an epiphany on how important fit was. I want to go to a university where I can receive a solid education in both statistics and computing while also participating in the vibrant community on campus. When I broke down the opportunities that each college offers instead of merely focusing on rankings and prestige, a clear number one option was visible: Carnegie Mellon University.

However, I have specially chosen to apply to the statistics major in the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences because the curriculum offered here is perfect for my interests. More specifically, I am interested in pursuing the statistics and machine learning major in the Department of Statistics and Data Science. The statistics and machine learning major is the perfect combination of statistics and computer science for a career in the field of statistical computation and big data, a rapidly growing area that I dream to be part of in the future. The most appealing part about studying at the DC College is the fact that it encourages interdisciplinary studies.
