Upon reading the prompt for this scholarship I was surprised expecting it to be something easy like “why do you deserve this scholarship?” where one answers with all of their accomplishments. I actually had to take a lot of time to thinks how I wanted to answer this. The obvious reason is that I need money, but everyone needs money. The reason why I am applying to this scholarship is because I need to accomplish my dreams. Lots of people want things in their lives, they want new clothes, they want to get a degree, they want to be someone important. The difference in me is that I need to; there is no option of failing. I need to accomplish my dreams and give back, not just to my parents but to society. I am applying for this scholarship for a chance to accomplish those dreams. As a child I always stood by while my parents fixed all the problems. One of the problems that affected me the most and always makes me work harder is how my parents were able to immigrate to another country and succeed. A new place and a new language they didn’t even know how to speak. At first my mother, brother, sister and I lived off of the left overs of Burger King. My father began in the most humble of ways as a cook in Burger King. A family of five cannot live off of minimum wage and live comfortably, so all we ate was Burger King. However, my father kept working hard and was always looking for a better job and a place to live. I will succeed and I will give back to my parents and all of society. I need to succeed and I will get any help I can to be able to get there. The hard work of my parents to get me here where I am now will not fall to deaf ears. If they worked so hard to make me have a better life I will try to make the most of it and when I succeed, I will give back to them for all their hard work in helping my siblings and me.
