In our curious world of excitement and innovation, I am constantly astounded by the stability of mathematics. There has always been a sort of power in the way mathematics seems to almost live everywhere, and in everything. Often times, people will fail to notice the way mathematics lives in everything we do, and everything we see. I, on the other hand, have always had a soft spot for the subject.
Even since childhood, I have memories of sitting down with an algebra workbook, trying to get a head start on the upcoming school year. The strength I had in this subject continued on throughout my schooling, but I had failed to realize just how much I appreciated it until college level calculus classes. As I sat through my classes, mind not nearly challenged enough, I thought back to those introductory calculus classes that I loved so much. Although I tend to lose interest in topics after the first class, my appreciation for mathematics continued to grow, even with increasing difficulty. Even in the toughest sections, I was never discouraged, and only felt more motivated to push forward until I fully grasped a concept.
Mathematics presents a paradox of complexity and simplicity that I wish to pursue further studies in. I have hopes of using my skills and knowledge to find solutions to problems previously seen as impossible to mend.
The field of mathematics is incredibly diverse, being the backbone of fields such as engineering and medicine, even branching out into business and economics. Although each of these have their own dedicated programs, the mathematics program is unique in that it would give me an upper hand in course material, as well as critical thinking
