In his article “Should College Athletes be Paid? Why, They Already Are”, Seth Davis is able to effectively argue why Branch’s argument in “The Shame of College Sports” is incorrect through his use of rhetorical strategies to the Sports Illustrated audience. Davis’ use of ethos addresses Branch’s trustworthiness in what he includes or does not include in his article. Through his use of logos Davis is able to point out why Branch’s logic does not add up. Finally, Davis’ accusatory tone asserts his opinion of Branch’s writing, which tears down why Branch’s own article is flawed.
The NFL started in 1920, when the league originated as the American Professional Football Association. The NFL was the first professional football league to effectively start a national existence, after numerous periods of unsuccessful tries. League membership slowly evened out between the 1920s-1930s as the league took on a more official organization. Many changes came about following the war, such as the resigning of African-American players.
Football is a very popular sport not only in American high schools and colleges, but also in the entire country of the United States. Is playing high school football worth the risk and harm inflicted to high school football players? This is the main question raised by the author, Raymond Schroth, in the article “Abolish High School Football.” In this article, Schroth talked about the disadvantages and harms of playing high school football to the players. Schroth argued that high school football should be abolished because it had contributed more harmful effects than benefits to football players.

Keith Shirey is a writer for The Spoof!, an online website that focuses on what the title echoes. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a spoof is a light humorous parody (Spoof). Most spoofs are only supposed to only be taken with a grain of salt, but some writers use it to add emphasis to their writing. When analyzing Keith’s article “College Football Teams Should Go Semi-Pro”, he uses examples of humor, ridicule, statistics, and emotional appeal to stress his argument to the typical person that college football has become so enormous that they could create their own semi-pro teams.
The Religion of Southern College Football In “Pulled Pork and Pigskin,” by Wright Thompson, the author discusses the religion-like qualities of college football in the south. Thompson provides Ole Miss as an example of college football traditions. However, Ole Miss is not the only team with unique qualities and traditions, and the author also lists some of the famous traditions from other college football teams across the south. Another strong example of a team with the qualities of a religion is the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Before the 1920’s, football was overshadowed by baseball and it’s rising superstars, which largely gained popularity through the use of media. When analyzing the rise of college football in America, it is no surprise that media had the same impact on it’s growth in popularity. Media was a key reason why Americans became interested in college football. Most people could not afford, nor could they find transportation to get to the Saturday college football games. With the introduction of the radio and the press, people now had a way to be informed with what was happening in the world of sports.
If American Football is an art, then its athletes paint with blood. This should surprise no one; the gridiron plays host to modernity’s most violent sport. In this unforgiving environment, it is all to common for former stars to flare out with career-ending injuries. As I kicked off my research on the National Football League (NFL), I intended to report on these injuries. With a premise on my mind and a paper in my sights, I headed to JumboSearch to begin my investigation.
The birth date of football is thought to be November of 1869. Initially, football was comprised of two games: running and kicking. The two games merged together and the ball began to slightly stretch out in order to accommodate more types of uses. Also, in the early games of football, there were 20 players on the field from each team and therefore it was more closely related to rugby. Currently, all footballs used by the NFL are made by Wilson.
For many years has football has been considered the utmost dangerous sport in high school, but recently many new studies have been made to prove the exact opposite. The last touchdown was made by Miami 4th down and goal along with the extra point kick leaving the final score at Miami 41-8. While watching this game I learned about how the downs and yards work. A team gets four downs and they try to make ten yards in those four downs if they do that the downs reset back to one down and the team tries to make another ten yards or into the endzone depending on where the ball is. A fun fact about college football is the first game took place on November 6, 1869 between Rutgers University and

Adrenaline pulsing through my body and anxiety filling up in my stomach, I quickly throw on my football gear and head out to the practice field. It’s a nice hot day in Ocala, Florida, with the sun beating down on our necks, we stand side by side in line waiting to be picked to play second, third, or fourth string in a play. Waiting in anticipation, each of us grinding our teeth, watching first string pure athletes colliding against each other like gladiators to have possession of a ball made at one-time of “pig’s skin”. To some people, the game of American football makes no sense, whether it’s the idea of trying to protect a ball or running and passing it to make a goal for your team. People like this, see the concept of football and understand why millions of people love it; but to them the sport is pointless and causes way too many casualties.
