Although evolutionists provide concrete evidence for the mechanism of evolution, they do not have the authority to deny the existence of God and hence, undermine the value of faith. This claim is supported by Francis Collins, a geneticist and Christian, in his book The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief where he states that, although it is important for science to seek for evidence to provide about how the Universe is the way it is, faith is the only answer to questions about what is beyond the natural world and our present understanding. Hence, he provides a spiritual answer, through faith, to the question regarding the existence of God instead of a scientific question. Isaac Newton, along with other founders of science, have supported this statement and have credited God with the design of the Universe. Newton credited his work on the force of gravity to originate from "an intelligent and powerful being". Arguments have been made about how Darwin was condemned by the Anglican Church after the publication of his book On the Origin of Species. However, Francis Collins responds by providing the example of B. B. Warfield, a conservative theologian, who embraced the process of natural selection as a creation achieved by a divine power. B. B. Warfield favored the reconciliation between science and religion as he states: “I do not think that there is any general statement in the Bible or any part of the account of creation, either as given in Genesis 1 and 2 or elsewhere alluded to, that need be opposed to evolution.” (Gregg Allison, p. 270). Hence, the conflict doesn't seem to arise from serious reasons and isn't actually as polarized and contradictory as it appears to be. Francis Collins provides a surprising fact about the number of scientists that do believe in the existence of God as a necessity: "About 40 percent answered in the affirmative. In 1997, the same survey was repeated verbatim—and to the surprise of the researchers, the percentage remained very nearly the same." (Francis Collins, p. …show more content…
Scientists, however, believe that advanced education will eventually deny the belief in faith. The rejection of faith by evolutionists is based on the interpretation of creationism as a scientific theory where faith cannot act on the basis of reason. However, many scientists, including Dr. Collins, have always claimed that their faith was supported by reason but with the added element of revelation. His belief in faith does not compromise his scientific work, as can be seen from the awards that he has collected. Furthermore, creationism should be defined as religion where God becomes necessity in one's spiritual realm. This spiritual world cannot be denied by science as it is beyond the reach of evidence and knowledge. The role of science is to explore nature while God's realm is spiritual and impossible to explore through scientific evidence. Richard Dawkins, during the debate, has himself claimed that there is a probability that a supernatural and divine power could be present outside of reality and the natural world. However, he acknowledges that it is beyond humans' understanding and rational thinking: "There could be something incredibly grand and incomprehensible and beyond our present understanding." (Biema, p. 6). Richard Dawkins' work on the theory of evolution and the process of natural selection provides enough evidence to understand how living things have
