Coming to Peace with Science is a book written by Darrel R. Falk that attempts to explain the connections between the Bible and Science. These two topics have always considered to be opposites. If you study one, you remain ignorant of the other. Falk wants to prove otherwise by showing that person can call themselves a Biologist and a Christian at the same time. This review of Falk’s work will cover his beliefs on how creation fits into the scientific time frame, how evolution fits in with God’s vision of the world, and a personal reflection my agreements and disagreements with Falk’s words. Chapters 1-3 cover Falk’s view on the relationship between science and religion, and how creation and the Fall of man is related to the scientific time …show more content…
Falk’s words on isotopes seem like hypotheses at best. I can’t imagine how he would know for sure that certain isotopes would take billions of years to decay. Isotope daters only measure isotope ratios and not the age of the Earth. One thing about science is that it’s limited to observations we make in the present. Namely in the last chapter, there were two things that that I express doubt in. Falk has said that God does not call us to a life of studying science, but rather, he calls us to live a life that follows in Christ’s footsteps (Falk, pg. 233). I see this more as a half-truth. Living in Christ’s footsteps is definitely a goal that Christians follow, but believe that a part of worshipping God and following Christ is to study the world that they left for us. The second part that I expressed doubt came right after the previous statement. Falk said that we should be patient with each other and allow each other to follow truth as we see it in scriptures (Falk, pg. 233). This statement appears to state that we should be allowed to use scripture in whatever way humans see fit. Part of a Christian’s life involved interpreting the Bible in the right way so that other won’t twist or misinterpret its meaning. We shouldn’t accept other peoples beliefs blindly, but rather, analyze and debate on what the real messages of scripture tell
