Galileo was a 16th and 17th century astronomer working to validate the Copernican Theory. Galileo, a devoted christian, was one of the first to go against his religious leaders to pursue science and prove what was right. Because of Galileo christians can study science freely. The church now encourages science where as back in Galileo's time it was frowned upon. We can thank him that science has come all this way. Galileo was born february 15th 1564 in Pisa, Italy. He was the first born of six children. When Galileo was ten, his family moved to Florence where he began his education at Camaldolese Monastery. When he was 21, he went to the university of Pisa to study medicine. While he was there he became interested in a lot of subjects. Mostly …show more content…
Due to financial troubles Galileo left Pisa after two years without a degree. He went back to Florence to be a math tutor. He began to study objects in motion. While he was doing this he redesigned the way to use hydraulics to weigh small objects. He wrote a book on it called “The Little Balance”. His brought him fame and the university of Pisa hired him as a professor. While He was a professor he began studying falling objects. His experiment was conducted on the leaning tower of Pisa. His results supported the Aristotle views of falling objects which was that the mass of an object would not be proportional to its fall speed. Galileo published a book on his findings called “On Motion”. Galileo was arrogant about his findings, so the university of Pisa did not renew his contract in 1592. In 1609, he heard about a telescope made by a Dutch eyeglass company. He soon made his own. Several venetian merchants saw use in the telescope for spotting ships so Galileo was payed to manufacture some telescopes. Later that year he decided he would use his telescope to look at the sky. In March 1610 he published a small book on his findings called “The Starry Messenger”. This …show more content…
Thanks to Galileo I am able to learn about new scientific discoveries in my christian school. While studying him I realized how much God left out in the science department of the bible so we could have fun discovering new things about his creation. I was also interested in studying Galileo because he was the first to use astronomy facts to prove the Copernican Theory. I have always been interested in space but have never learned the history of astronomy. Everyone thought that the earth was the center of the galaxy until Galileo. This applies to our lives too because we have to acknowledge that only God know everything and our scientists know very little compared to him. But I think the most important reason I choose Galileo is because most of the battles Galileo had to fight are being fought again today. Now scientists are bringing more and more evidence about the earth being 4.543 billion years old. But most churches are still holding on to the idea that the earth is young and only 6000 years old. Science should be good for christianity, showing us where the bible was using metaphors and poetry. God left us to figure out science for ourselves so not all of the answers are gonna be in the bible. This is what Galileo fought for, but scientists today still have to fight his battles. Evolution is also an aspect of science that is being studied into now. If lots of good
