On November 22 1997, 13 year old Noah Wilson, was killed by his friend, Yancy, after stabbing him in the chest with a kitchen knife. Wilson's mother stated that her son was killed because of an obsession with the Midway game Mortal Kombat 3, which Yancy was obsessed with. She believes the game made him believed that he believed himself to be the character, Cyrax, who used a fighting move which Wilson says involves putting the opponent in a headlock and stabbing them in the chest, The court found "Wilson's complaint fails to state a claim upon which relief can be granted.”

Eric Harris 18, and Dylan Klebold 17, was allegedly obsessed with the video game Doom. The duo used weapons similar in the video game to carry out the attacks and wrote in their journals on how cool it’s going to be to kill the students at school like how they do to video game characters in the game.
In February 2003, 16-year-old Dustin Lynch was charged with aggravated murder after being influenced by the video game, Grand Theft Auto 3 to commit acts of murder. He later pleaded insanity in court and said that he was obsessed with the popular video game. Lynch’s attorney, Jack Thompson, encouraged Lynch’s father to pass a note to the judge to say that "the attorneys had better tell the jury about the violent video game that trained this kid to kill and showed him how to kill our daughter.”
On June 7th 2003, 18-year-old Devin Moore shot and killed two active police officers and a dispatcher after grabbing one of the officers' weapons from the waist after an arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle.
