This TV show is a comedic cartoon that follows a character named peter griffin. Though the show is crude and merciless at its attempt to wow its viewers with its Graphic and completely inappropriate comedy, it does entail quite the amount of sociological concepts however when watching the show they could be very easy to miss. Back to peter Griffin however. He has a son a daughter, a friend and a dog that I will be discussing. I chose these 5 characters because I believe that they each have their own sociological concept that ties to them.
The “Outsiders” made me think about the rules that groups give us are strongly founded on what they see as defiance. It made me think that some rules are given within a group are not remotely necessary and that we as a society are to blame for what is deemed as “socially acceptable”. Deviants may not even be actually deviants but that’s what they are labeled by society because they think, what the deviant did was wrong, which could be made up by what society thinks is okay behavior. The relation to this reading and the sociology course shows how society controls us and how they consider we should act. It reminded me of how society tells us as women that showing off our body parts is deemed as trashy and not lady like, but men can do so without
Common Sense was
The documentary called The Hunting Grounds, had multiple concepts that relate to sociology. Using a sociological perspective, it was very prevalent to see the ways college campuses use patriarchy and gender stratification to keep women who have been sexually assaulted on campus from disclosing information or even getting help about these issues. Through the discrimination against women at these gender institutions the women formed a Feminist movement to bring awareness and help to the victims on campuses all around the world and to stop the assaults from reoccurring. The Hunting Grounds is a documentary that reveals the untold stories of women on college campuses and how these women have fought to have their voice heard about sexual assault on campuses. Sexual assault and rape on campuses has always been a major problem for colleges all over the world yet very little has been done to protect the students.
Many social issues are portrayed in television shows because they are common in every society so it makes it easy to relate to the audience. One show in particular that has many social issues that are demonstrated perfectly to the audience is a Netflix original show called “Shameless.” This is a show that focuses on a single family in which the father, Frank, is a deadbeat drunk who is never reliable. The mother, Monica, abandoned the family a year or so after she had the last child, she is mentally bipolar. She shows up occasionally throughout the series, but for the most part is in some unknown place to the audience.
Collectivism is an approach believes that society is responsible for all its citizens. Therefore government has an responsibility to provide care and support for the vulnerable and services such as education and health for citizens. Even when someone is responsible for the situation they are in, for example collectivist argue that poor life chances leads to smoking, drinking too much or eating a poor diet. The welfare state makes sure vulnerable people in the UK can get benefits.
The American Sociological Association (ASA) has multiple parts to its code of ethics all in which values protecting the individual. The Sociologists have a foundation built for them; these guidelines are expected to be followed. Guidelines that are important are as follows: Sociologists as a whole should never strive for anything less than what they deserve. They should also have manners such as respect and being courteous to other in activity they partake in.
One thing the media has contributed greatly to is the misconceptions of race within crime statistics. The civil rights battles ongoing mentioned previously includes a movement appropriately named “black lives matter” through various social media hashtags. The movement began shortly after many incidents of white citizens or police officers shot and killed black citizens, many children, with no repercussions of their murderous actions. It was many media outlets that began to be under scrutiny when they portrayed the victims in a harsh unforgiving way in the light of the fact they were black. It is widely known that news articles often give white subjects a graduation photo or otherwise well intentioned photo, while black subjects are treated
Since I grew up in Argentina, I was socialized under the Catholic religion. Nonetheless, I was lucky to learn from different perspectives, mainly because I traveled and made friends everywhere. I have friends from almost every religion and I have visited and learned from almost each one of them. However, I never observed the intersection of gender and religion until I took my first class in college. There, I discovering that what we learn in our family and in our social groups (like church) influence the life choices of women.

Common sense is basically can be understood as follow. That is, when an individual is able to judge and able to understand certain matters that is already expected by majority of people in the society; without the need of any specific nor detailed explanation. As Miller (2017) have stated, there are mainly 2 philosophical term of common sense which have been derived from a philosophical debate. The first philosophical term is proposed by Aristotle.

The subject of sociology tries to help us to understand why we act in certain ways and that what may come across as inevitable may perhaps be shaped and moulded by historical events and processes. It is important as it helps us gain knowledge of the world in which we live and why certain things happen within this world. Patterns may also develop from the study of sociology.
