Are Americans too materialistic? Yes, yes they are. Americans have become too materialistic, and nobody seems to have a problem with it. There are three popular beliefs explaining how we are. For instance, a quote from Ellen Goodman an avid American journalist and winner of the Pulitzer Prize. “Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.” We have become so materialistic that we work in order to pay for the clothes, transportation, and housing in order to go to work to pay for the things that we bought to go to work.
