The Rose Against the Storm Throughout William Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily” and Kate Chopin’s “The Storm,” the authors use setting to help get a better understanding of the story. In Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily”, he talks about the life of Emily and her stubbornness to let go of loved ones that have passed. in the story, she finds a lover by the name of Homer Barron. It is later revealed that she poisoned and killed him and throughout the years, slept with his decaying body. In Chopin’s “The Storm,” a storm is passing through where a family is separated. The main character Calixta hurries to prepare for the storm when a past companion, Alcee, comes along and asks to be sheltered while the storm passes. They become intimate with each other and wait for the bad weather to pass.
