Wetherall, the narrator acts like someone he 's not to impress a girl. The narrator had been waiting the whole summer to ask out Sheila Mant. Every day he observes her moods and her actions on the lake.
During the days Sheila was outside but not on the dock he would swim laps to impress her with his flutter kick and capability of his front crawl. Occasionally he would glimpse over his shoulder to see if she was observant of his actions. When he did notice her watching him out there he would continuously keep diving off the dock until she left and the sun was out of the sky. The boy would do his best tuck and a half off the board and couldn’t stop. Finally, the following day after asking Sheila out he spent all day polishing the canoe and making it look
INTRODUCTION “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” This quote from Martin Luther King, Jr reminds everyone that acts of injustice do not occur in isolation; these acts affect not only those directly involved, but anyone who is living in the world that allows these acts to take place. Kenny Watson, the main character from The Watsons Go to Birmingham by Christopher Paul Curtis, and Anne Frank, a young Jewish girl living in Denmark in the 1940s, both experience injustice and through their experiences different character traits are revealed. Although, Anne Frank and Kenny Watson share similar character traits, one profound difference is what makes them unique characters. BODY One of the main similarities about Kenny and Anne is that they are both caring and kind.
Within society, people are motivated by self interest and self gain rather than concern for other members of the society. In moments of high crisis On the Waterfront directed by Elia Kazan and Twelve Angry Men written by Reginald Rose both depict characters driven by self interest rather than compassion. However On the Waterfront and Twelve Angry Men both have a character that defies the social norms of self Interest. The play script and film portray similar themes through different devices. The characters within the film and novel cast a similar picture of greed and corruption.
Sometimes people have to make a hard decision or choice in life when deep down they have to end up letting go of one of the options. In the story, “The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant” that was brought to life by W.D Wetherell, when the narrator had to make a hard choice of either letting Sheila go or the bass. There are many reasons the narrator had one of the hardest choices, including his immaturity as a teenage boy. The other main reason that it was a hard choice was that he wanted to impress Sheila, and since she didn’t like fishing he had to pretend to be someone he was not. Firstly, in the beginning of the story the narrator had an obsession with Sheila.

Jurgis is the main character in the book The Jungle. The book was written by Upton Sinclair and it portrays the horrors of factory life in the early twentieth century. Jurgis was an immigrant that came to America in hopes to achieve the American Dream, only to find himself cheated out of that dream by everyone around him.
Tim Goodwin and Charles Dickens, both authors, in their passages, one by Goodwin and the passage Bleak House by Charles Dickens, address the fog in London. Goodwin’s purpose is to include logos to demonstrate how the fog has changed over the years, while Dickens includes pathos to appeal to the way the fog affects the environment. Dickens adopts a creative tone to describe the fog, while Goodwin uses an informative tone to exhibit the real facts about the fog to the residents of London. First, Goodwin applies logos to demonstrate the way the fog has changed over the years. He puts it in chronological order to state, “The worst lasted from November 1879 to March 1880 without a break.
What is it about ‘the bush’ that is so special to Australians? The bush has an iconic status in Australian life and features strongly in any debate about Australian national identity. Secondly, the poem to alludes to the commonly known fairy-tale, “The Princess and the Frog”. “The Princess and the Frog,” tells of a common girl who believes in being something bigger than herself, kissing the frog and finding true love. She only becomes a princess because she is willing to take the risk. However, in Machan’s version, the maid refuses to see herself in a bigger light, she refuses to believe she can be more than what her reality is. She states, “Me, a princess” (11).
If We Should Die and Lilies of the Field were both stories that involved racism. Both characters from the stories, Will Harris and Homer Smith, had very similar experiences. They both had experienced some sort of discrimination. They were both very similar but had very different experiences based on their skin color. They had similar backgrounds and were encountering it around the same time frame.
While there were some similarities in the way The Andy Griffith Show and I Love Lucy were produced the differences varied greatly. The setting was the greatest difference as I Love Lucy portrayed that of a middle class city family, while The Andy Griffith show portrayed that of a simple small town life revolved around a Sherriff and his son. The pace within each show was televised differed greatly as well as did the subject matter. The setting for I Love Lucy was in a middle class apartment and focused on the life of a housewife and her husband, which was an entertainer.
The movie “Ever After” by Andy Tennant, and The short story Cinderella by Perrault, are both very different takes on the story of Cinderella. Perrault’s version of the story is the story that most of us have grown up with. It’s captivating and magical, but also it’s very one-dimensional, with a “magic pumpkin” and a “fairy godmother”. While, Tennant’s version is by far more realistic in nature, there is no magic pumpkin, but there is a prince who becomes her husband, an evil stepmother, and a pretty, kind hearted girl who slaves away doing as her stepmother demands. The “fairy godmother” does not randomly appear from no where, in “Ever After”, instead she is replaced by the great inventor Leonardo Da Vinic.
Every novel or stories gives a fundamental ideas or lesson for the readers. Most of the lesson are informative and it brings a changes to the readers mind. There will be a universal of an ideas explored in a literature and readers can abstract numerous themes depending on each individual. Similarly, in the novel “the old man and the sea” Hemingway depicted several themes related to nature, people and so on. However determination can also be one of the theme for the readers because the old man, Santiago didn’t gave up fishing even if he had cramp but he took this as an encouragement in his old age.
