Republicans and Democrats are considered the two major political parties in the U.S, but the next most widely know political party is the Libertarian party, which is a part of the third party system. The republican party was established in 1854, and it is commonly referred to as the GOP (the grand old party). The official symbol for the Republican party is an elephant. Their party has several core beliefs that they stand by. I think that both of these parties put forward good arguments, and that one is not necessarily better than the other. However, I think that libertarians tend to advocate freedom more than republicans in the sense that they disagree with laws that restrict people from doing what they truly believe is right, and they respect everyone’s personal preferences. I personally lean more towards libertarians than republicans, not so much because of the freedom aspect, because I do think that some restrictions on freedom are necessary, but because libertarians tend to be more accepting of people who are different than them. I think the libertarian party respects all individuals and their rights, and ultimately allows everyone to express themselves in the way they best see fit.
