Athens and Spartans had the major power during this period. Athens and Sparta were always in a rivalry. Athens were about education, arts and democracy, while Spartan was about military and not being weak.
Spartan was not about arts, architecture and manufacturing. All their efforts went into the army and was an authoritarian society. Spartan was forced to become a militaristic society. They got rid of political distinction between citizens to make all free men politically equal. Instead of having one ruler they had Dual Monarchy. Dual Monarchy is governed by two kings who performed military, judicial and religious function. Spartan culture was tough and discipline above everything. They had no right, but they were expected to be curios, they thought that their world was the best. Trade was the most important, but they would not exist without trade. Spartan was never showing emotions. Spartan was never curious the men were always trained for the military.
The Peloponnesian War was an ancient Greek war fought by Athens and the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta. Athens was reduced a state near subjection. Sparta was the leading power of Greece. The war caused economic cost, poverty became the widespread in the Peloponnese, while Athens founds completely devastated and never regained its power and success but continued its rivalry. Athens lost their position as the leading Greek city-state, while, Athens continued as a cultural center it failed to comeback as a dominant military power. Greece was weakened and conquered by tribal people of the north.
In conclusion, Athens and Spartans were different in many ways. Athens and Sparta impacted today’s society. Athens curiosity and intellectual thinking helped their society and coming up with new creations and ideas.
