3 adult views on punishment Punishment through decades of times have changed drastically. Certain forms are no longer in used, other forms are being made. Seeing these changes, there is a wonder of how other parents were punished whenever they were younger. Would their punishments be significantly different? The decision to interview three different decade parents came into mind. Each parent had a different story to tell, along with giving advice to the upcoming parents. Throughout their discussions, there is insight from each parent on how they were punished and how that influenced their wellbeing.

This interview started the same with the question, how were you punished? Her reply was “My mother was very physical abusive growing up. I was slab in the head, in the face, my toys were taken away and were never given back.” The age with this emotional abuse was age 2-12, therefore her whole entire childhood she went through this. She believes that her mother used the method of VERY extreme actions to get her point across. As hearing this reply, I thought about how the environment she was raised in may have influenced her intelligence. The question of how was your elementary years was asked. “My elementary years were the worst, I was constantly in trouble, I was very smart for my age, like my mom, however I was always switching schools therefore I had no friends which was hard to deal with” was the reply. As it shows, the environment plays a role on the child. Her genetics from her mom gave her the ability to succeed in the classroom, however her behavioral issues was coming from the environment she was raised in. The way she punishes her daughter now is completely different then how she was punished. She used the more reasoning approach which seems to benefit more than physical abuse. Like mother, like daughter was not used in this
