“Who would ever think that so much went on in the soul of a young girl?” Anne Marie Frank used hope to stay positive during the reign of Hitler. Throughout the whole book I read several examples of how Anne Frank was hopeful the war would end and that Jewish people would again be able to live freely. She frequently talked about how life was going to get better because the English were going to
In “The Diary of Anne Frank” by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, the conflict of the story is how the Nazis ultimately want to wipe out the Jewish population and have the German population dominate. This makes the Jew’s lives harder because the Nazis are forcing them to do things that make them stand out so that they can be treated differently. One example of this would be “We had to wear yellow stars” (Goodrich-Hackett 703). The Nazis made them wear this patch called The Star of David on all of their clothing so that people would know they were Jewish. The Nazis also prohibited Jews from doing everyday things.
Anne Frank Compare and Contrast The Diary of Anne Frank takes place Amsterdam, Netherlands. In the book Anne and her family are Jews in World War II. Because of the oppression of the Jews, Anne and her family are forced to go into hiding. Anne, her mom Edith, her dad Otto, her sister Margot, Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan, Peter Van Daan, and Mr. Dussel.
When Anne and her family quickly evacuate their house and arrive at their hiding place, Mr. Frank says boldly to Anne and Anne’s sister, “There are no bolts, no locks that anyone can put on your mind. Miep will bring us books. We will read history, poetry, mythology” (Goodrich and Hackett, 22). Clearly, Mr. Frank displays a sense of faith in what his family will be able to do and accomplish in their sizably smaller dwelling. At the same time, he is able to make the best out of the situation they are in; Mr. Frank’s belief in his family’s future, and in himself, enables him to be more complaisent and open-minded about their situation and their hiding place.
In the text The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett the theme is, you can always find the positive in a negative situation. It fills us with
One of the many traits of Anne is that she looked at life in a positive manner. The young girl was very brave by how she communicated through her diary and how she acted towards her environment. The little girl didn't think about how she was going through a lot, she thought about how happy she will be eventually. On line 27 on page 356, Anne said, "As for us, we're very fortunate." This quote explains that Anne believes that her family are fortunate for being alive in a time like the Holocaust, while hiding in an annex.
Anne’s positive attitude and hope helped her overcome her distressing time in hiding during World War II. Other examples can also be found in the poem “Homesick”, and journal entries written by youngsters living during World War II. Having hope helps overcome obstacles that you may have thought was unfeasible to surpass. Hope can be found in everything. Fear can leave you petrified, but hope is the greatest strength that you can possess and hope will always overpower fear.
This thought is conveyed in Anne's writing, "How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." This gave the Franks' and their companions new hope. At last, there was someone on the way to end the agony from being confined to the same isolated rooms for a long period of time. This outpouring of support from various countries throughout the world, proves Anne's belief that people are really good at heart.
On the website AnneFrank.org, it states, “Later, the diary is translated and adapted to both film and theatre. People all over the world get to know Anne Frank’s story, and are deeply touched” (AnneFrank.org). This shows that Anne Frank’s positive attitude inspired so many people and deeply touched them. Optimism During Tough Times Optimism does not come naturally. Many in present times have a hard time finding that bit of hope to grab onto. In the drama The Diary of Anne Frank, the reader can sense they find optimism even through the holocaust and the adversities the characters face. The authors Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett use optimism in the characters to help develop a theme surrounding the drama. These characters show the reader how to find optimism during tough times.
Anne does an excellent job in her diary writings explaining daily life in hiding. She explains the trouble and constant fear of being captured, as well as being stripped of basic rights such as full showers and hygiene in the annex. But even with this, Anne states "If I just think of how we live here, I usually come to the conclusion that it is a paradise compared with how other Jews who are not in hiding must be living.", ending misconceptions that Anne’s story was a complete telling of the atrocities committed to Jews during WWII. Anne’s journey through adolescence forms a relationship a between the middle school reader and Anne, this is essential in the reading due to the already known information on the aftermath of the diary. The style of the writing makes it feel as if Anne is truly confiding in the reader and telling them her problems and doubts.
Anne was seeing the good in the really awful situation that she was in at the time. This explains how people are truly good at heart because she is trying to reassure herself and others that everything will work out and be ok in the end. Anne says “I think the world is going through a phase, the way I was with Mother. It’ll pass, maybe not for hundreds of years, but someday . . . “ Despite everything that is happening Anne still believes that it will be over soon and that everything will be ok.
