Have you ever been forced to go into hiding because of your religion or what you were classified as? Yeah, well this group of people had to go through this in the Holocaust. The Diary of Anne Frank, by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, follows a life of a young girl, Anne, and her family as they are forced to go into hiding. Anne’s sister, Margot, had been drafted into doing labor work and Anne 's family is forced to move to Amsterdam, in hiding with a group of strangers. The group must stay in hiding for two years, with conflict building inside the house and outside, to survive.

Lastly, there is a message during the hanukkah time that Anne gives the readers and a scene at the end with Anne and Peter. During the hanukkah dinner, everybody 's spirits are up but Anne makes everyone more excited with presents. She takes everything old or forgotten by everyone and turns it into something new and gives it to the group as presents. She says, “No, it isn’t. I’ve got something...Presents!” She also gives us a moment of hope at the end when she reassures Peter that everything will be okay. The green police have found out that they were inside the house and were coming to arrest them. Anne and Peter are arguing and Anne tells him to have religion. She says that you need to have something to believe in, something to give you comfort and make you feel safe. Anne says, “I wish you had a religion, Peter... Oh, I don’t mean you have to be an Orthodox...or believe in Heaven and Hell...I just mean some religion…it doesn’t matter what. Just something to believe in!”

In conclusion, I believe that an important theme in The Diary of Anne Frank, is faith or having faith. The idea is to have an idea or entity that you can seek comfort with when everything has gone wrong or horrible. I believe what Anne learned in the end was to always believe in a greater good, have optimism, or a belief. At the end she says that she still believes in spite of everything, that people, no matter what, are good at
