The most famous story of the war will always be the story of a girl named Anne Frank. Her story is known globally as the first girl that struggled through tough times during the Holocaust (“Why is Anne”). She is a symbol of perseverance and strength. Even though her story might be the most famous, every war story is important in its own way (“Anne”). Many Holocaust stories have been told over the years. One example of another war story is the struggles of my grandmother, Ineke Kuik. She is from Dutch descent and was located in the Dutch East Indies during the time of World War II and the war with Japan. Like Hitler, Japan was also trying to take over the world which resulted in the tremendous devastation and untold struggles of many (Kuik). My grandmother has been through similar situations as Anne. As a young girl, born a few years before the war, she spent more than 3 years in various Japanese prison camps under very difficult circumstances, A few years ago, she wrote a memoir about her father, Bouwe Kuik, among other things to explain the tragedies of the war (Kuik).
