Analysis In the lecture, “Comparing the 5 views Christians Take to Psychology” are key ways to integrate psychology and Christian psychology. Hawkins & Clinton integration approach is very compelling. They started the integration off by using the Bible as the foundation of what they believe as the inerrant word of God. According to Hawkins & Clinton (2015), they believe that if the foundation is not firm it will be hard for healing to last. The approach that Hawkins & Clinton takes is a biblical and transformational approach. They believe that when counseling clients their aim is to bring the client to a point where they want to serve God. This approach is a holistic approach. Clinton and Hawkins identifies psychological issues and spiritual issues through the same lens. Understanding how people act, and why they act the way they act is pivotal. Often, a person’s worldview explains these questions. In addition, they believe that all men are made in the image of God, however, they are separated by their sin nature. Interestingly, dealing with client’s psychological and spiritual issues stems for the innate from sin. It takes the word of God, and the Holy Spirit to spearhead whatever the client is going through. In Hawkins & Clinton’s approach psychological and research is very important. Research plays a major role in their approach, because many other psychologists has spent a lot of time created models that proves to be effective. In addition, it gives the Christian counselor a different perspective on the causes of different problems. According to Hawkins & Clinton (2015), “Neuroscience offers a rich interplay between the mind, the brain, and the network of relationships, which helps us understand mechanisms of a wide array of therapeutic concepts, strategies and techniques” (p. 23). There are many clients that will come into my office with many different problems. It is essential to utilize all accessible information in helping clients to a healthy way of living. In a Christian counseling setting I would first address my clients by doing a pre-screening on the way that they think and feel about certain situation that they are dealing with. In addition, this pre-screening will allow me to build a rapport, and help build a relationship of trust. Since, I have a Christian counseling center, many of my clients already know that my foundation is from a biblical perspective. Therefore, there will be practical resolution, in addition to biblical base resolution. Many of the things that Hawkins & Clinton talks about in the book with help me integrate psychological theory and research with a biblical theology/Christian foundation. First, looking at the worldview of an individual will assist me with understanding why they are going through the problems. By looking at a person’s worldview will explicitly explain their reason of thinking, and how devise a plan to help them. Another factor will help me is understanding science is not an enemy to Christian counseling. Spirituality and science will help create a concrete foundation (Hawkins & Clinton, 2015).
