Comparing Individuality In 1984 And Brave New World

1984 and Brave New World both show us that not being like everyone else, and having individuality is a crime. Both of these books illustrate that you need to follow the rules and regulations or you’re an outcast and should be shunned for being different and doing what you feel like makes you, you. Both of the authors, George Orwell and Aldous Huxley, make it wrong to find happiness and fulfillment in anyone else but yourself and anyone who does that is weak. Although, only the strong willed can find those feelings in someone else due to the strict laws in both of these novels.
In 1984, George Orwell created the characters Julia and Winston. Julia has been rebelling the party for a while now and Winston is new to it. His rebellion started when he started writing in his journal which is intellectually different from the people of Oceania then this led to the affair with Julia. Winston and Julia are having this affair for strictly their own enjoyment and pleasure. Julia loved Winston but I believe Winston loved the party more even though he also hated it. He had the need to show Oceania what happens if you don’t conform to their world. He didn’t want anyone else believing they could get away with such crimes like Julia and Winston. Aldous Huxley presents to us that not conforming is wrong by sending Linda and her son to live in a completely different kind of world, and then the director wants to send Bernard to Iceland for only wanting one woman. When Bernard and this woman goes on vacation they meet Linda and she confesses about the director and Bernard feels as if he needs to get permission to bring her back and show everyone he’s not as perfect as he seems. When Linda comes back and confronts him he believes he should be sent away because he can’t handle the embarrassment because he didn’t conform to the world like he should
