For example, The Raven, Alone, and Annabel Lee were all stories and poems that related to his family and loved ones. All of those stories depicted his life. To begin with, in Edgar’s early years he was abandoned by his two fathers, David Poe Jr. and his foster father John Allan. In addition, his mother died of tuberculosis and his foster mother Frances Allan died of brain cancer. A while later Virginia, Edgar’s wife also died from tuberculosis.
Poe uses symbolism a lot in his stories to make his writing have a more eerie feeling. ”The Tell-Tale Heart” and “Masque of Red Death” both have symbols that induce fear into the main characters hearts. In The Tell-Tale Heart Poe writes “...for it was no the old man who vexed me but his evil eye “(75).The narrator kills an innocent old man for that hr thought the old man's eyes were judging. Although the old man just had cataracts ,the narrator could not stand the man for his eye he compared looked as vulture's eye. The narrator was afraid of this old man and his “evil eye”.
Edgar Allan Poe's life almost definitely influenced his literary works especially how melancholy his poems are. From reading his poems he speaks about the loss he had experienced in life, especially with his first wife, Lenore who he loved very much and whom was devastated of her death. In the poem "The Raven" he speaks to the raven, asking him if he could help him forget about his wife's death. The only thing the raven says to him was "nevermore" it began to drive Poe mad, he began cursing the raven by saying that he should be able to forget his wifes untimely demise.

He has a unique and dark way of writing his stories and it appeals to the readers emotion and drama. He has a recurring theme of death and lost love, and in “The Tell-Tale Heart” Poe writes about murder, insanity, obsession and guilt. His use of symbolism and point of view is another reason what makes Poe one of the greatest.
The Style of Poe Analysis In “The Tell-tale Heart” by Edgar Allen Poe, the demented, arrogant and dark tones reflect the man’s guilt and insanity that eventually leds him to admit to the crime he committed. Poe’s diction heightens the arrogant tones which is seen as the man plans the murder and carries it out in a careful, organized way. He goes “boldly” into the chamber, “cunningly” sticks his head in the doorway and feels “the extent of his own power”. Poe’s use of diction shows how cocky the man actually is.

Poe’s writings were molded by the many tribulations and difficult challenges that he faced in his life. Poe’s father abandoned him and his family when he was a young child, leaving Poe in a precarious situation.
“The Tell-Tale Heart,” tells the story of a madman who murders his elderly neighbor. The Reason behind this callous crime being the extreme discomfort brought to the narrator by his neighbor’s eye. The narrator/murderer, describes the neighbor’s eye as “a vulture, pale blue…with a film over it,” and claims this eye possesses him. With his mind in a craze, the narrator’s feelings toward the old man change, causing him to act irrationally and shaping the whole story.
"The Cask of Amontillado", by Edgar Allen Poe shows much about the themes of revenge and karma from the setting of the story. In this story, one of the main characters named Montresor wants to seek revenge on Fortunato, because he has wronged him. So to seek revenge they both were at a carnival and Montresor lured him down into his catacombs where he buries him and leaves him to die. This shows that Montresor got his revenge and Fortunato got bad karma for wronging him.
Many people go through horrors in their life. However, most don’t record them in the way Poe did. From a young age Poe experienced death in his family. As Poe lived his life, he started using his feelings and life experiences in his work. He based his feelings in his poems such as Annabel Lee and Alone.
