According to Enotes.com , the bus “[allows] …passengers to reveal their various social prejudices.” Even Julian, who “[is] free of prejudice” is not immune: “he [has tried] to strike up an acquaintance on the bus with some of the better types.” By doing so, the author shows that there was still underlying tension in society despite the desegregation.
For example, in the reading it says when nine black students, the arkansas nine, attempted to enter a white school they were physically blocked by white protesters(source B). This shows that people didn’t want black students attending a white school and protested towards their education. Even though they attended legally through the NAACP people still didn’t believe that the kids shouldn’t be able to attend this white school. In addition it says, the governor brought the military to protect the nine students from other students (Source B). This shows that the protesters were so violent towards the black kids attending school that they had to bring the national guard to protect the kids.

Long Walk To Freedom was more persuasive than About Cesar because it was told in the way that it was as if Nelson Mandela was telling the story.
