Comparing Three Articles About Gender Differences

Gender Differences “Boys will be boys, and girls will be girls”, says Aaron Devor. Women and men are always seen as totally different people, but is it right to say that women are different from men. There were made many researches to find the gender difference. The range of critical response to the topic of the gender is clearly discussed in the reviews written by Aaron Devor “ Gender Role Behaviors and Attitudes”, Deborah Blum “ The Gender Blur”, and Mariah Burton Nelson “I Won. I’m Sorry”. All three articles have similar and different opinions, but they are all about gender differences. While Devor and Blum talk more about women and men differences, Nelson focuses more on women strong sides, all three articles focusing their discussions …show more content…

Devor says in his article, “Members of both genders are believed to share many of the same human characteristic” (506). He talks about this point a little, but mostly he separates men and women behavior. Both Devor and Nelson points out that, women are more showing their gender when they are caring about children and wearing dresses. Devor writes that “Femininity is a result of warm and continued relationships with men, a sense of maternity, interest in caring for children, and the capacity to work productively and continuously” (506). As for the men he says “They speak more loudly and less polite” (509). Alike, Nelson writes women must “listen carefully, and be more elegant” (527). Also, she writes more how women must look, “Kind, nurturing, accommodating, nonthreatening, placating, pretty, and small” (530). Then she continues “You will have to smile. And not act angry. She disagrees with Devor and Blur about the domination of men over women. She points out “Funny, she doesn’t look like weaker sex” (528). She talks about strong women that can be dominating over men. In her article she discusses women that became better than men in sports. Also, Nelson writes, “You could see her impressive muscles” (528). Now, women can have muscles and reach heights that men can’t. But the stereotype that men put on women, sometimes stop men to see women as “Winners” (526).
