Comparing Two Poems Analysis

Love has the ability to restore and heal, but also to destroy someone. In both poems, the authors explore this capacity of love. Parrish implies that she has been hurt in the past and as a result, has convinced herself that love is “only magical for some.” This has lead her to start losing faith in finding someone to love. With a pleading tone, Warren addresses that she wants this same person who hurt her to take away the pain he caused her when he left. On the contrary, Parrish’s tone is hopeful in the refrain as she has possibly found someone who can “pick up the pieces” and make her “whole again.” The inclusion of these phrases in the refrain allow the readers to focus on her hope for the future rather than the disappointment she experienced
