Comparing Two Sports Websites

In today’s age, information on your favorite sports teams can be found at the tips of your fingers in a matter of seconds using mobile devices, tablets, and computers to major sports websites dominate the market today in Canada one being Rogers Sportsnet and the other being TSN owned by Bell Canada. Although both websites provide relevant up to date information and have a user friendly interface they both have unique features that make them better than the other. We can compare these features to see which website is the number one source for sports fans. In this paper we will be comparing the homepage, fantasy sports and lastly taking a look at things one website offers that the other does not.

Fantasy sports are continuously growing Darren Heitner from Forbes magazine states “Non-betting, yearly-based fantasy sports users have grown at 25% since 2011, with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association reporting an estimated 51.8 million players in the US and Canada in 2015”. With the massive growth it is important that each website has a user friendly and fun interface for each consumer; as this is a hobby for most if they do not enjoy the content TSN or Sportsnet is providing they will go elsewhere to play their fantasy sport. While both websites offer free fantasy hockey, baseball and football TSN also offer fantasy basketball giving them an edge in attracting more consumers. Both websites offer an equally simple account creation and an easy to navigate fantasy drafting system. When it comes to extras Sportsnet offers a magazine subscription with information and tips for your fantasy teams based mostly around hockey where you can subscribe for an annual fee of twenty nine dollars which include twenty six issues, TSN on the other hand offers a plentiful amount of information right on the website about all fantasy sports free of charge. Although TSN offers more resources on their website for fantasy sports Sportsnet offers cash prizes in there fantasy leagues which include one of two cash prizes of five thousand dollars which attracts players to their website for the chance to win prizes …show more content…

What makes a website stand out is the things it offers that others don’t; it is how websites get dedicated followers. TSN and Sportsnet offer different features in each of their own websites for starters both websites provide information on 11 sports including NHL MLB NFL etc… but TSN exclusively offers information about hockey Canada where is Sportsnet exclusively offers information about cycling, cricket and junior hockey. Other then the few extra sports Sportsnet covers everything else that can be found on their website can also be found on TSN’s website. On the other hand TSN offers many exclusives including polls where views can voice their opinions about favorite plays and referees decisions; they also offer side bars displaying their latest tweets form twitter and posts on instagram with links taking the viewer to TSN’s twitter and instagram page; lastly they also have an online store where consumers can buy apparel like shirts socks, jerseys and hats as well as mugs and backpacks along with many other sports novelty items.
