Two items that I choose from two different categories, were outerwear clothing items and shoes. The two companies that I found I could purchase from that are fair-trade products from companies such as Patagonia and Roma Boots. Patagonia is an American clothing company that sells outdoor clothing, and it was founded in 1973 by Yvon Chouinard where it was based in Ventura, California, its logo is the skyline of Cerro Fitz Roy in Patagonia. The mission of Patagonia is to “build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis”. The product ingredients are not purchased but recycled polyester from plastic soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste and worn-out garments including their own into polyester fibers to produce clothing. Roma Boots “is a socially conscious ‘buy one give one’ boot company that merges fashion with philanthropy… for every pair of rain boos sold, a brand new pair is donated to impoverished children living in cold and wet climates.” Roma boots were created by Samuel Bistrian, and according to Roma, “who was born in a small village in Romania, conceived the idea in 2009 after more than a decade of taking annual trips to Romania where he saw children roaming the streets with sandals, broken shoes or no shoes at all, through mud, rain and snow.” It’s mission is to provide boots to children in need because their most basic and practical necessity in cold and wet climates because most people do not have the luxury of paved roads and support educational initiatives. In the article, it talks about this lady who was approached by a family friend who was from the United Kingdom and whom offered to accompany her. Like most people, I would to honestly, she jumped at the chance for a better life, for her and her children. When I read this, I was heartbroken honestly because who would think a family friend would take advantage of you and use you for their selfish selves. Although Sophie went through something as bad as that, I was glad to see that she was able to get out of it safely and get help from the Welsh charity, Bawso. I had no idea of the organization Bawso, but to know that it helped someone that was in a really dark situation such as Sophie, it’s amazing. It is an organization that is needed in a society we have today because once you experience something as bad as what Sophie experienced, how are people supposed to function in the world everyday. It is awesome they are relocated and most of the time given new identities to reduce their risk of being found. There should be more organizations like Bawso, because this is not just a big issue in Europe but even here in America, with organizations like these they help people try to be
