Goal 2: Complete Doctoral Studies Few would disagree that people who have obtained a doctoral degree accomplished this with the sacrifice of self, family, and sometimes their careers. My sacrifice is heavily concentrated around family and self because I am going in a different direction with my career. My second level goal is to focus on completing this program, so I can use the credentials to secure a position as an instructor. The successful completion of this program means more than receiving a degree but accomplishing an educational goal that no one in my immediate family has achieved. The listed steps in completing my goal increases my chances of gaining access to other scholar-practitioners in my field to share our concerns, accomplishments, and ideas of social change for our local and global communities (Laureate Education, 2016d). Teachers while educating help to increase the ability of their students to communicate appropriately and effectively and to view situations from a variety of perspectives (Baldiris Navarro, Zervas, Fabregat Gesa & Sampson, 2016). My desire is help college students make the connection between learning and motivation (Clayton, Blumberg & Auld, 2010) as it relates to their chosen learning environment, particularly for those wanting a career in education or consulting. The areas of education and consulting are important to me because these are areas where we influence others and it needs more accountability and recognition. In addition, I will use my doctoral degree to gain me access to doors of opportunity that were previously inaccessible based on my level of education.
