The central focus for the lesson segment that I will be teaching “The Rise of the Conservative Order in Europe in 1815.” This lesson segment has several essential questions: “What was purpose/goals of the Congress of Vienna in 1815?” “In what ways did European countries maintain order under the Congress of Vienna system?” “How did citizens throughout Europe react to the new Conservative Order established?” “In what ways did Nationalism and Economic Reforms plays into the reaction against the Conservative Order?” These questions are designed to guide students to see how European countries planned on establishing peace after the fall of Napoleon, and also show the impact the new system of the order had on citizens throughout the region.

Each night students are assigned a reading, which they must annotate and answer guiding questions for. Their classwork is based on these reading assignments, they come to class to process the content information through group work onto graphic organizers or answering guiding questions. This allows students to engage with the different facts and concepts in a text, asking the teacher or their classmates questions to help further clarify the concepts they may be having a difficult time understanding. Students also are required to analyze documents to find answers to scaffolding questions given on graphic organizers. For many of the learning objectives, students will be analyzing sources, the corroboration or disagreement between sources, and the use of multiple sources. Students will be exposed to a wide range of different sources including, primary sources, secondary source news articles, political cartoons and musical pieces, students will have the opportunity to practice their analytical skills in figuring out the meaning and also develop their argumentative skills. Students are required to read a secondary source regarding the establishment of the Congress of Vienna the night before class. In the reading, students are introduced to several pieces of information, such as the fall of Napoleon, the reasoning behind the Congress of Vienna, who played a major role during the conferences and the different ways it tried to establish peace throughout Europe. Students come to class and answer several questions regarding a political cartoon connected to their reading for a Do Now to the graphic organizer to help them recall and process information as they write their answers.
