Controversy: Private Schools Vs. Coed Schools

Public Schools tend to stay on the coed side. Private schools or other types of schools are usually sex-segregated with the exception of some being coed. Recently and issue of deciding which teaching method is superior has caused controversy. Personally coed schooling is what I have received and prefer. Many agree that both types have their pros and cons, but a decision on one side is preferred. Sex-segregated schools claim to reduce stress among students and elevate grades as well as attention to the material. Coed schools claim to offer the same and also interactions with the other sex. Therefore the following text will describe the benefits of coed school according to student's psyche and social interactions.

The impact on having no relationship with one another is eliminated. Being in a coed school also influences a child sexuality. In a coed school they are able to explore their interests, while in a sex segregated school they may be more likely to act like the other sex based on visual representations they have seen. Boys or girls in coed school are less likely to stereotype because they have experienced many personalities of each other and know that not one person is the same. During the school time boys and girls challenge each other which may drive interest into succeeding in school. People who like the idea of sex segregated schools say that they offer less dropouts and a higher graduation rate for students because they are taught according to their development. A study ( NeuroImage, Vol.36, No. 4) compared boys and girls and their brains in order to find a difference. They found that girls brains develop faster and are able to process information and learn quicker than boys. This helps sex segregated schools opinions because it conforms to what their brain can process, but coed schools can do the same. There are many public coed school that have a high graduation rate. This means that not one is better, but both are equally good. Going back to the idea of picking a side, public schools that are coed and think that sex segregated teaching is the best are likely to make the switch. This impacts the students because they are happy with being affiliated with the other sex and segregating them may lead to student protests.
