The UCIE Convo Club Meetings benefited me at the micro, macro, and mezzo levels.This experience has helped me tremendously on an individual level. These meetings have shown how to appropriate connect with another individual. I learned new ways of creating a personal relationship with someone from a different cultural upbringing. This revelation on relationship building will be essential in the field of Early Childhood Education. This has shown many ways to interact with a student on an individualized level. Each student is different in the same way that everyone at the UCIE Convo Club Meetings was different. These meetings have given me experience and background knowledge that I would have otherwise been without. Interacting at the individual level with minorities students will not be something new when I am a teacher. Learning about families in other cultures will help me interact with the student and family of that student. Throughout these meetings, I learned the different ways families interact with each other depending on the culture. Muslim societies rely heavily on the value of family. Whenever I have a Muslim student, I will know that the parents’ approval and opinion will be greatly taken into consideration by the child. In order to help my student be successful in the eyes of the school and the eyes of his/her family, I will ensure to stay on the same page as the family. By creating common expectations, the student will have a clear image of what success is, which will make achieving this success so much easier. If the parents and the school have continuity, then the child will be pushed by both force in the same direction. This will eliminate any conflicting paths the student may feel led to
