America is represented in many different lights ranging from praise to mockery. People have taken it into their own hands to illustrate the kind of America their eyes see by altering the way the American flag appears to them. An example of such is ASAP Rocky placed in front of the American flag. An additional depiction of the flag would be the photo titled American Flag Barcode. The two illustrations mentioned are captivating and portray the corruption in American culture and shall be compared amongst one another. The first image being analyzed is the image that rapper Asap Rocky used for his album titled “Long.Live.Asap.” In this photo one can see a straight-faced Asap Rocky. He is dressed in a flannel plaid shirt and a baseball cap, looking closely under the brim of the hat it is decorated with small white crosses. The American flag Rocky is standing in front of is not upright like most flags, instead it is turned upside down. The flag is still and does not appear to be waving. The picture in its entirety is presented in black and white. At first glance, picture 1 gives off the idea of corruption because an upside down flag is presented. The significance is that usually when something is referred to as “upside down” it is known to be chaotic. The most significant detail f this illustration that rises above the others is that in written letters it states “Freedom for Sale” on the right side of the barcode. This image appears just like the barcode on an item you would purchase out of a store. On the American flag in the upper left hand corner is where the stars are placed to represent all fifty states in America.
