“A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini, takes place in the city of Kabul. A young women named Mariam was forced into an arranged marriage with Rasheed who she didn’t want to marry. Rasheed was abusive and controlling. Rasheed goes and marries another woman, Laila, and abuses her too. Mariam and Laila don’t get along very well at first but then they realize what he has done to them is horrible. Both started to team up against him because they decided they have had enough of what he has done to both of them. Courage isn’t being Fearless; it is having courage when times are fearful. Mariam showed courage when she ran away from the chauffer because she was fearful when he tried to take her to Jalil. Once Mariam realized that her father allowed her to sleep on the street rather than bring her into his home that it wasn’t a good idea to get in his car. For Example, the driver said "Let me take you home. Come on, dokhtarjo. "Mariam stood up and walked toward him. But then, at the last moment, she changed direction and ran to the front gates.
