Singer Katy Perry is depicted wearing her product, while her product is beside her and a kitten stands on her shoulder. Based on this advertisement, this product is marketed towards teenaged girls and young women. Katy Perry is a pop singer, famous for her kittenchy tones that are extremely popular, especially in the teenaged demographic. In Figure C, Katy Perry is wearing a dark blue lipstick, and Figure B shows examples of red and dark product; this is significant because older women are less inclined to go with bolder colors when wearing makeup. She’s white with conventional features that society loves—it’s aesthetically pleasing to see her face on magazines and music videos. A part of the reason Perry is famous is because she is attractive to pop culture, and CoverGirl knows this. The idea of someone like Katy Perry using CoverGirl’s matte lipsticks entices someone to buy their lipstick over a company like Maybelline or Revlon. Not only that, Perry has a massive following due to her career and CoverGirl was able to use her to have her fan’s purchase their product. In Figure E, the advertisement’s text shows a positive and excitable attitude towards the new product. Using the words “pillowy-soft” and “made by Katy herself” give off a good impression of Perry and her contribution to the product.
