According to the definition, an environmental scan is “monitoring of an organization's internal and external environments for detecting early signs of opportunities and threats that may influence its current and future plans.” Since CraveTV showed up to the videos market in late 2014, it is a relatively new platform. First, I want to analyze some opportunities for CraveTV. The first opportunity for CraveTV is its exclusive right for HBO shows. That’s to say, people are able to enjoy completed series of HBO shows on CraveTV. Also, CraveTV offers many shows that CraveTV’s biggest competitor Netflix doesn’t have in Canada. This can also be considered as an opportunity since people do not worry about kids taking the remote away. Just kidding. Actually, CraveTV can focuses on the quality of shows that can attract teenagers and adults. Teenagers and adults are the major components of CraveTV’s potential customers, so this can be a great opportunity. Third, CraveTV is available for almost all devices even including iPads and iPhones. Developing a comprehensive and up-to-date product like on-demand streaming video platform needs the product itself to improve with the trend. CraveTV takes up a part of mobile device market, so the future development of CraveTV is expecting. As for challenges, the first one is how to expand the market, especially when facing a strong rival - Netflix. Netflix has already existed for some time and has occupied a mainstream market for streaming video platform. Netflix has a wider target market and is available for many different countries. Refer to what we have learned in module 1, globalization is necessary for long-term success nowadays. CraveTV has to deal with its expansion in the
