Before presenting a speech it is useful to know the seven communication elements. The elements include, speaker, message, channel, listener, feedback, interference and situation. The speaker is the person who is presenting, the message is what the speaker is trying to communicate, the channel is the means of communication and the listener is the audience. The audience will send back messages which are called feedback. An interference is anything that disturbs the communication of a message finally, the situation is the time and place in which the presentation occurs.
When it comes to finally creating the presentation or speech, there are many ethical considerations you should think about. According to The Art of Public Speaking, “ethics is the branch of philosophy that deals with issues of right and wrong in human affairs.” (Lucas, Wattam, & Simeon, 2008). The first is to make sure that your goals are ethically sound, meaning that the message of your speech should be morally acceptable. The next guideline is to be fully prepared. One of the responsibilities as a speaker you have towards your audience is to put your best effort into the presentation. In my case, my audience is a group of university students, however, I have a responsibility to myself and to my audience to give them the same respect and effort I would if I were presenting in a business meeting. In my presentations in high school, I put effort into my work and treated my audience with respect. I also made sure that my information was correct and that my PowerPoint was both appealing and readable. Next, the third guideline is to simply be honest. As a speaker, I have a responsibility to provide honest and accurate
