In the short story titled “Antigone,” the author portrays Creon as a tragic hero by displaying flaws in Creon's character shown throughout the story. Creon’s character contains many flaws which lead to many problems. His decisions end up deciding the fates of his son, his wife, and Antigone. Creon finally realizes that what he has done is sinful to the gods. He has put his own pride over the appreciation of the gods.
Being very stubborn is something that I try often not to do. When somebody tells me something trying to change my attitude toward something I try to listen to what their saying and not allow myself to have quick judgment about it. I don’t want to stick to what I believe even if I strongly believe in it, I would rather like to hear different aspects to a situation. I have been in situations before where someone did not want to listen to what I was saying even though I had good arguements on the topic. Many people who are very stubborn get defensive if a person argues what they believe.
The epitome of one who is hubris is Creon. Creon has some much pride and self-confidence that is causes him to be defiant towards the gods. In the beginning of the play, “Antigone”, Sophocles portrays Creon as a decent king. He makes rational decision and seem to rule like a king who knows what he’s doing. Then, a twist in the play occurs where Creon becomes more of a tyrant instead of a king.
In the tragedy, Antigone, Creon is the tragic hero and is the one partaking in what Aristotle define as “recognition.” Recognition, according to Aristotle, is something that all tragedy needs and “is a change from ignorance to knowledge, producing love or hate between the persons destined by the poet for good or bad fortune,” (Aristotle, part XI). Aristotle defines ignorance to knowledge as the tragic hero recognizing his ignorant self after the hero has encountered something drastic. Recognition was noticed in Antigone when Creon was arrogant but figures it out after his whole family had died because of his selfish way. Creon has shown throughout Antigone his ignorance and showed his knowledge near the end of the tragedy.

Antigone is the courageous character of this play because she would accept any consequences for her brother, she would die for him, and let her dream of being a mother and wife vanish.
In the play "Antigone" by Sophocles, Antigone rightfully decides to bury her brother, Polynices, but when the king, Creon, finds out, she does not repent for her actions. She is a woman that stands for what she thinks is right, which in this case is that Creon is wrong for condemning the burial of her brother. As demonstrated throughout the Greek tragedy Antigone, Creon’s tragic flaw is hubris which causes his downfall . The downfall begins when Creon refuses to give Polyneices, the son of Oedipus and the brother of Antigone, a burial. Creon believes that Polyneices did not die an honorable death as he broke exile and raised the sword against his home city, Thebes, so in return he will not receive a burial.
